THE AKHENATEN ADVENTURE by: P.B. Kerr

Strange things have been happening to John and Phillipa, but when they have their wisdom teeth pulled out, the strangest of all happens, they get visited in their minds by their uncle Nimrod. He tells them that they should visit him in London instead of going to summer camp. The kids go home and they tell their parents that they want to go to London and surprisingly their parents agree. When they get to Nimrod’s house they realize that they may not be just human! I loved this book from the start. It had really great writing and the storyline was awesome! In one part you think that the book is over, but the author comes back with some really cool stuff. This book is great for people with an interest in ancient egyptian history and magic or just someone looking for a good book. The Akhenaten Adventure gets 5 out of 5 shields.

SEA CUTTER: BOOK 1 IN THE CHRONICLES OF NATHANIEL CHILDE by:Timothy Davis

When Nat’s mother goes to Maine and his father presumed dead he is left all alone. Nat’s friend Wayland comes over one afternoon and has a huge sea chest. Nat immediately recognises it as his father’s. They open it up and it has a mysterious message. Nat opens a case meant for his mother and finds a huge pearl. He thinks that it is a clue that his father is  on an island that has never been found, Perlas Grandes. Wayland suggests that they search for Perlas Grandes on his boat, the Sea Cutter. Nat gets excited, but Wayland ruins it by saying that he has to get permission from his mother to go. Nat soon finds a way around it, but what will he do about the deadly stowaway onboard the Sea Cutter? This was my first e-reader book! There was a little violence(someone gets stabbed), but I think a 9-year-old could handle it. This book reminded me of Treasure Island a little bit. I liked how in one part(I’m not telling you which) a character reappears from the beginning.  It had a ton of twists and turns with some cool nautical stuff. Sea Cutter get 4 out of 5 shields. ATHERTON: House of Power by: Patrick Carman

Here is my Patrick Carman review thanks to Erik at This Kid Reviews Books  www.thiskidreviewsbooks.wordpress.com.  Check out his awesome blog.

Edgar works on the Grove. He helps produce figs to trade for water. The Highlands, the highest part of Atherton, controls all of the water. It is forbidden to climb the cliffs to get to another level of Atherton.  Edgar does it anyway and finds a mysterious book.  He cannot read it though so he must take it to the Highlands. What will happen when the book’s secrets are revealed? I couldn’t put this book down. I fees like Edgar is your friend. Mr. Carman went to great lengths to describe the geography and science behind Atherton. The website for the book is pretty cool too, here is the link: http://www.hachettebookgroup.com/features/athertonseries/index.html.    This book really takes you to a whole new place.  Atherton gets 5 out of 5 shields.

THE SON OF NEPTUNE by: Rick Riordan

Percy Jackson finds himself running into a Roman demigod camp with his memory stolen. The kids at camp have their own problems to worry about: One guy’s life depends on a stick! The Mother Earth and her giants want to take over the world. Can Percy and his friends band together and stop the giants from rising again and learn to use their “gifts”? The characters all have a gift/curse so it is interesting how they try to solve their problems. I read this book in one day it was so good! The Son of Neptune gets 5 out of 5 shields. This is book 2 in the Heroes of Olympus series. You can check out Mr. Riordan’s site at www.rickriordan.com. There are tons of cool facts on all of his books. ;D

THE SHIFTER by: Janice Hardy

Nya is a taker. She can shift pain into other people. Nya’s sister, Tali, disappears and Nya must find her but she must also get to the bottom of what’s happening with government officials. I loved the characters in this book-everyone has a very distinct personality and they really develop throughout the story. I also like the setting very much, there is a war going on and it’s set in the desert. I give this book 4 out of 5 shields. This is book one in The Healing Wars Series. I can’t wait to read the next one. To learn more about these books you can check out Ms. Hardy’s website at http://www.janicehardy.com.

HATCHET by:Gary Paulsen

When Brian goes to see his father the pilot of his plane suddenly has a heart attack. Brian manages to land it, but can he survive with only a hatchet? Can he face the dangers of the wild? I give this book 4 out of 5 shields. I really liked the parts about the little things that Brian starts to notice while he is in the wild. The situations and problems Brian gets into are very creative. You can always count on Gary Paulsen for a good survival story. THE GIVER by: Lois Lowry

Jonas’ world knows no pain or fear. Everything is perfect and safe after the “sameness”. Jonas gets picked to be the reciever of memory. He then learns of everyday things. Will he take these memories the right way? I used to think this book was about saving trees when I first picked it up. Don’t ask me why! I liked this book alot. It really shows you all of the things that we take for granted. It was a little bit sad though. I give this book 4 out of 5 shields because of the wonderful characters that really develop throughout the story.
